How to check if a fridge filter is really certified

Last checked October 28, 2026

Take the exact model number from the box or listing and search it in the three public directories below. It counts only if the listing names that exact model, under the standards you care about.

The three directories

  1. NSF: info.nsf.org/certified/dwtu. Type the model in “Brand Name / Trade Name / Model”.
  2. IAPMO R&T: pld.iapmo.org, the product listing directory. Search by model or company.
  3. WQA Gold Seal: the Water Quality Association's product certification listings, searchable on wqa.org.

What counts

  • The exact model number appears in the listing.
  • The standards and claims you need are named next to it (for lead: NSF/ANSI 53 with lead reduction).

What does not count

  • A logo on a box or a product page without a listing behind it.
  • “Tested to NSF standards” wording, which is not the same as being listed.
  • A listing for the same brand but a different model, even one letter off.

We do this for every filter on PartAnswers and link the listing next to each row. See how we check.
